It certainly deserves it more than Obama…  CNN has a bit on this.

The internet is, in my opinion, one of the most democratizing, freeing technologies to come along since the printing press.  It allows the instantaneous sharing of ideas and opinions, with all that entails (good and bad.)  It allows people to reconnect and communicate over great distances cheaply — I’ve started talking to relatives I haven’t seen in decades.  It’s spurred me to head home in August to see them.  The internet allows access to information like no technology has, and has completely changed the nature of business — for the better, I believe.  (But that might just be because of the smoking deal I got on the Hilton Grosvenor in Edinburgh for my visit to Scotland.  Thank you, William Shatner!)

Most people in my field, history, are antiquarian by nature and practice.  However, I feel that the technological progress that we are seeing, and the synergy that is being created between computing, portable communications devices, and informatics is leading us toward a better, more stable, and ultimately happier (well…maybe more spoiled) existence.

Thanks, internet!
