I always thought that “nerd” denoted actual intelligence in some area or another, while “geek” covered the realm of hobbies and interests. So you can be a computer programming whiz (“nerd”) but not necessarily enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons (“geek”), or the other way around: you can watch Star Trek until you go cross-eyed (“geek”) but not actually be shockingly intelligent (“nerd”). Social ineptitude is covered under “dork.” That’s how my high school experience delineated it.
Anyway, I agree this Anderegg guy’s an Egghead. Whups. Guess we’ll have to ban that one, too…
