I previously posted on the SIG_Sauer P320, the handgun platform that the new M17 Modular Handgun System is based on, but with the official acceptance of the M17 by all of the US services as the replacement to the M9, I figured I’d give it another showing…
The new M17 MHS is based on the P320 family of handgun and features interchangeable grip modules and panels, has suppressor support with a threaded barrel, interchangeable slide lengths, and an integral optics mounting plate and a rail system. Instead of the double/single action hammer-fired mechanism of the M9 pistol, the M17 uses a much simpler striker-fired design pioneered by the Glock.

All of this is assuming that it survives the very strong challenge to the contract that Glock filed. And there’s also a strong challenge on another contract that the P-320 won from FN, IIRC. One of the bits of scuttlebut that I’ve heard is that the other guns were preferred, and were actually better in the objective scoring and tests, but SIG pretty much gave them away.

Precisely, the tests don’t really matter, once the money is involved. That’s the only reason Beretta stayed on as long as it did. Glock can bitch all they want, once the adoption is signed, it’ll be a matter of pricing. I’m guessing SIG undercut them, last minute. I’ve handled a P320 and wasn’t impressed; I think the CZ-75 P-series would have been a better choice, but I’m not getting cash under the table to make decisions like that.

Wait until the challenge is decided before you say it’s in the bag for the Exeter produced POS. I remember when Airbus won the KC-X competition and then it was overturned because Boeing pitched a bitch. I’m going to wait; I think Glock has a good chance of getting it overturned.
