General Ramblings

Vltor is working on a re-release of the famed Bren Ten 10mm handgun that Sonny Crockett carried in the first season of Miami Vice.  For those shooting types out there, the Bren was an incredible shooting piece — the original 10mm platform, based on my favorite steel gun, the CZ-75.  Up until now, the closest you could get to one of these was the Tanfoglio Witness in .45acp or 10mm.

The new Bren will have a 15 round magazine (and will accept mags from the Tanfoglio), and has been re-engineered to improve the gun while keeping the look.

Vltor’s blog on the Bren Ten.

bren-tenSaving my pennies, already…

UPDATE:  Well, I was.  The release date is now sometime this summer and apparently it’s going to be a very limited release through a company no one’s heard of… So I’ve said the hell with it and spend $250 to get the 10mm barrel/slide for the Tanfoglio, added a 20 lb recoil spring and a conefit guide rod.

I understand Vlotr’s reticence to put out vaporware, but they’ve had a year since they announced the production gun would premiere at SHOT Show 2010.  They could/should have had a single production gun for the show.

Well, while the former look of the blog was very professional and pleasant, it doesn’t fit the nature of the site and the feel I wanted to present.  So — the Campbell of Argyll tartan at the top, a new green font for the headers, and I kept the font from the former look.  (I love the dropped font for the numbers.)

If you have any requests for what you would like to see address, feel free to comment.

There’s a host of fiction and non-fiction pieces, and a bunch of netbooks for various RPGs now up on the other pages.  They’re all in .pdf, for everyone’s convenience.

All I ask is if you use my work, you ask first and cite me properly, or in the case of the game supplements, tell your friends where you got them.

…once I get over this monster flu that hit me Tuesday night.  I’ve been running a fever between 2 and 5 degrees, and this one seems to want to go for the chest.  I’m coughing up Hollywood-monster goo-type snot pretty much every few minutes.

Next on the review block: Big Damn Heroes by Margaret Weis for the Serenity RPG.  Now back to my regularly scheduled viral misery….

The funniest part:  the bloody thing is smiling!

For those with a taste for anarchic-transhumanist subjects, pop over to informorph’s website:  anarchotranshumanism.com

It looks to be a good source for material to use with Eclipse Phase (see below), or to confuse your elders with.

Another good site is H+ Magazine: http://hplusmagazine.com .

After years of absence on the ‘net due to work, school, and other responsibilities, I am dipping my toe back into the electronic world.

Previously, I had a small imprint in the gaming community online with things like the Q2 Manual for the James Bond roleplaying game, and a series of fan books for the Decipher Star Trek game.

For the last few years, I have been actively seeking my doctorate in history, specializing Modern American and European History.  My dissertation is a study of the effects of science-fiction on the culture and technology of the late 20th Century in the United States.

My goal and hope is that this will become a spot for people who — for whatever reason — are interested in roleplaying games, history, politics, or a variety of interests that I share.
